November 5, 2012

  • Twenty-six days later….

…..project 2012 is almost, pretty much finished.

We…(and by WE, I mean Jeff and my two oldest sons :)

    knocked down a wall.
put in an old wood burning stove.
    removed a closet.
added new crown molding in the foyer.
painted lots of walls in lots of rooms.
painted (and here’s where the “almost, pretty much finished” part comes in) all the trim in the above mentioned rooms.
put in a new window!!! a great big window that takes up my whole wall.

Since we moved into this house I wanted a bigger window in the dining room.
Last summer the glass cracked on our small window..I was excited because I thought the crack meant a new, bigger window.

I was wrong. It meant Jeff was going to fix the glass. He didn’t want to spend money on a big window at that time.
I told him that I was going to pray for a big window. He laughed and said fine, pray for a window.

I barely had a chance to pray when my brother called and told me my uncle had the wrong window installed into his house.
The company was coming to install a new one and wanted to know if anyone wanted the old one, they were just going to toss it away.

Of course!!!! No tossing! I’ll take it. Thank you God. Thank you Uncle Jimmy.
God shows Himself in such amazing ways..even in something as silly and simple as a window.
and let me just say..we could NOT have afforded to buy this particular window!

So glad my aunt and uncle love quality. ;)
So thankful they asked if anyone needed a window.

The wood burning stove I found on Craig’s List last fall for $200. It has been in our garage for over a year.
It needed a little love and care. Well care…I already was in Love!

I did a little research….the stove was made in the Chicago Foundry between 1904-1920.
We have been using it for a little over a week now and let me tell you, our usually chilly house is warm. (It’s 80 degrees in here right now.)

    {another perk..no heating bills this winter. yay.}

This month ten years ago we bought our home. Since we’ve moved here Jeff has wanted to paint using different shades of white.
I finally agreed. {and it had nothing to do with Country Living Magazine…cough} I really like how it brightened up our room.

I am actually banned from painting trim in the house. {a story for a different time}…and since I hate painting, well I don’t mind the ban.
Jeff still has a little bit of painting left to do inside of the window…as you can see.

I am so glad to have furniture back in the rooms where it belongs.
Having the house out of order made everything feel out of order.

Hope your week was off to a great start.

  • So beautiful!  That is one blessed dining room!  :)

  • Very tasteful and appealing!   I love wood burning stoves for heat.  Mine is smaller but so is my apartment…and I have access to plenty of wood – hope you do too!

  • I’m suddenly wishing for a wood burning stove…I’ll be checking Craigslist. :)   The room is beautiful!

  • You dining room looks lovely.  We have an old wood-burning cooking stove in our basement.  I would use it more, but when I do it only heats our side of the house, so my Mom turns on her electric heaters.  Kind of defeats the purpose.

  • The room is beautiful!!

yay for a warm house, a big window & a completed project.

  • That’s encouraging to hear how God answered your prayer for even a window – nothing is impossible with God and He really does care about everything in our life, our desires, our longings, dreams, hopes, needs, etc.!  Beautiful Dining Room!  Looks like a place for many wonderful family memories to be made :)

  • Love it and the story of the window…to cool and awesome!  God knows even our little hearts desires!  I agree, having just one room out of order seems to make everything out of order and it feels so good to have everything back in it’s little place again :)

Enjoy your warm house and warm toes :)   The only part that isn’t fun about those stoves is  getting up in the night to feed the fire :/  Thankfully my dad always does that so I get to stay in my nice warm bed :)

  • it is BEAUTIFUL Liz! way to go all those who worked hard to make this happen!
can’t wait to come see it in person sometime!
    happy day to you!

  • I love the way that entire room looks. Everything is so beautiful, like it came right out of a magazine.

  • Amazing room and you all did a fantastic job.

  • That room is beautiful.
Don’t you just love how God provides!!  More than we can even hope or imagine sometimes (most of the time).  Learning to lean on Him and trust.

  • Looks amazing — nothing like wood burning heat.  I miss it.  I don’t miss hauling and chopping wood.  That stove is drop dead gorgeous.  You did a great job getting her to shine.  It is a girl right?  Just assuming…

Love your taste – I need to do something with my dining room.  I just don’t know what…. It hasn’t had trim since we moved in.  Awful I know.  We have been here 8 years.  That has a story b/c we tried to match existing trim in the kitchen and the stain didn’t work out and I didn’t like it — and so then it never got finished.  The kitchen and dining room need an overall.

  • What a fantastic job you did, you should be proud!

    I love everything about it.

  • Gorgeous! Jeff should branch off into a new business…painting!  I love everything!!!

  • I know I’m very late but I love it! What a pretty room. :)
