~ Chicago ~
Oh how I wish I was just waking up from a dream and it was really Friday morning and NOT Monday. It was so hard to kiss Jeff goodbye and watch him leave for work this morning.
The two of us spent the weekend alone down in the city. I am still living on lingering love fumes, but reality is starting to set back in as I just finished putting the first of fifty million loads of dirty laundry into the washing machine.
~A bit of our weekend ~
We ate dinner Saturday night at Scoozi, it’s one of our favorites. Love the giant tomato!
We went to a couple of antique stores I used to love to visit. I haven’t been to them for quite a while. They are the kind of antique stores I can’t buy anything in……yeah, that kind. The kind where you have to set up an appointment with someone important who only wears expensive suits if you are interested in making a purchase. The kind of store with no register, just private offices on the third floor to negotiate in. The kind where you have to sign papers, and get papers, and read papers, and stamp papers before you leave the “gallery”!!!
Almost got this outfit to wear to dinner, but then figured the feathers might be a bit much.
Thought this looked like a great popcorn bowl! But priced at $9,800.00 Jeff said no.
I had my umbrella just in case, but thankfully, it all ended up passing us by…….
Which made for a great night for a boat parade, fireworks and a romantic walk around the city!
2016 is still far off, but we’re hoping!
~Buckingham Fountain~
Sunday morning we went to Moody Bible Church, it was a great service.
After church we walked around in Lincoln Park. We were looking at houses, and went to one open house. We had been planning on eating lunch at this tapas restaurant a couple blocks from where we were walking, but changed our minds when we started smelling greasy, fried, fattening, heart attack food.
There was a new place called Five Guys on the corner where we were standing. A sign was on the window that said they weren’t opening until Monday, but the place was packed with people eating! At the front door was a lady in a red shirt asking people if they were friends or family.
So I went up to the lady and asked her if you had to be friends or family to get in there today. She said sorry, but yes.
Don’t you remember me????? I asked her. I am your second cousin on your mom’s side. She started laughing and asked us if we wanted to go in and try the food. We said sure and thanked her for being so kind.
So we went in, ordered our double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, hot dog, large order of crispy fries, and our cherry coke. Our total was supposed to be $18.52, but we ended up paying……..$0.00!!! That’s right, we had to pay NOTHING!!! It was friends and family day and everyone who came in got to eat for FREE!!!!! For being so nice to us, I told them I would do a little advertising. So here it goes!
EAT AT FIVE GUYS in Lincoln Park Chicago, located on Clark St!
One of the many signs hanging on the wall inside said that GQ magazine couldn’t find a better burger for $5 bucks. So I found someone that looked like they could be on the cover of GQ and asked him what he thought.
Loved it he said. Best burger and fries he ever ate! Besides his wife’s of course!!! (At least that’s what I think he said under his breath)
Now this is a bag that held a good lunch! Look at those grease spots! YUM!
(Looks like more than five guys working back there to me!)
So if you’re ever in town stop by. There’s plenty of Cub’s games left, walk down a few blocks people and eat at
FIVE GUYS!!!
And thus concludes our fabulous weekend. Thank you to all the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who made this weekend possible! We really appreciate you!
Hope you have a Wonderful Monday!

@skizyx98 - He only looks happy and cooperative in the pictures! We made a deal about taking them, can’t write about it here.
Who took the last picture you want to know??? I don’t know, some guy who we took a picture of first with his, I think girlfriend??? He actually was a real photographer with a big camera that looked like Caitlin’s.
@hmt122 - Is it because we look so young that we look like newlyweds?
Hahaha! Our next weekend will be to visit you guys!
I am glad that you guys had such a good time in Chicago. I love all of the pictures.
