  • Fashion Tip Friday ~ The Ombre.

Can you believe it’s March already?

When I think March, I think sunshine and tulips blooming.
However I am sitting in Panera Bread right now with a bagel and cup of coffee.
Outside the great big window next to me, it’s cold and snowing like crazy.

I live in the midwest. I should know better!
In like a lion, out like a lamb, right?

Well, now that the love month is over, we’re back to fashion tips.
Today’s tip inspired by my friend Thelma who started a hair coloring conversation this morning.
Since I am “dying” to color my hair {pun intended, Ha!} Let’s talk about that.

Not exactly sure what I want to do yet, but my stylist was trying to talk me into the ombre.
Sounds like a dance, doesn’t it? So what exactly is the ombre you’re wondering?

The ombre is  a coloring technique, darker at the roots,
getting lighter and lighter as you get to the bottom of your hair.
It can be subtle or very drastic.

At first I didn’t care for it very much,
but it’s starting to grow on me and I’m thinking about it.
It looks really nice when done right on the right head of hair.

A few pics I stole off the internet.

    {this one ^^^ is my favorite}

I’m warming up to the idea.
How about you? Would you do the ombre?

  • oh see. that’s pretty. I like.

  • Yes I would!  Because my hair grows so fast if I didn’t like it, it wouldn’t take too long to grow out.  My hair is exactly the opposite.  White borders around my face and it’s much darker in the back.  People ask me if it’s natural.  It’s very natural.  Crazy, huh?  Back to the do.  I think it would look very pretty on you.  I would go for it!!

  • Funny to see a “style” that started as bleached blond growing out to natural dark.

  • I don’t know- I like it in these pics but have seen some people that just look like they’re in bad need of a root job. so… if I could have one of their stylist i’d most definitely try it. ;) )

  • I don’t think I’m super crazy about it. It does look to me like someone’s just let their hair go. ha. Of course I’m never on the right page with fashion or hair design so you may consider that a pro of having it done . . . I bet whatever you did would look great on you though.

  • these pictures make it look awesome! of course, if you’re a movie star, making the money they make, you better be sporting a cut/style that looks like a million bucks! i actually really like this look. you could totally make it look beautiful Liz! i would not do it myself, because it would not look good on me with my constant up-do that i wear my hair in. blech. that would not look good! i can see though that if you wore your hair down it would be a great style to choose!

  • My hair is a lot like the last photo – my hair stylist asked me if I colored my hair recently because it’s darker at the roots and light at the ends as if it were growing out or fading out – nope, only ever colored my hair twice in my life – wishing for darker hair and I guess it’s growing in darker or the ends just stay lighter because of well water and lots of sun – for something different, I like the ombre look somewhat – not too drastic though like going from black to bleached blonde (sorry, don’t like that look) – ha, reminds me of a skunk :) I’m sure you could pull off the ombre look beautifully!  You’re always looking gorgeous.  Now, we wait in anticipation of seeing photos of a new do!

  • does ombre rhyme with somber? or hey? :) never heard of it. i think that these girls look fabulous! but i’m not sure that it’s the hair color… haha. i think that YOU could totally pull it off.

  • I think it’s pretty if its done right! Don’t like the drastic ones much but more the ones where the color change is gradual to the bottom of the hair. Hope that made sense:)I’m thinking if I should dye mine or not… More and more grey coming in

  • The first time I saw this look on Pinterest and it was called ombre, like months ago, I thought it was a funny, clever way to get around someone who had a year’s worth of roots outgrowth and I knew right then and there that I would do it IF all of my roots were dark. And that, my dear, was years ago.  Now, somebody has to create a clever look that allows the growing out of cloudy greyish roots and over- bleached top hair over dark reddish brown underneath and make it sound WAY cool. If I were you, I’d go for the 2nd photo look and hope your stylist could pull that one off.

  • I too think you could pull it off, and like the one you like, as long as it is not too drastic.  On the flip side, since I could naturally do a reverse ombre, because I started getting white hair when I was in my 20′s, and coloring it in my 30′s, I would say DON’T COLOR YOUR HAIR IF YOU DON’T HAVE TO   But that is just because I am sooooo tired of it.  I have decided that I have to be in my 60′s at least before going all white haired When I do, I will probably have to do some weave so it can grow out nicely.

  • @ABAHM – see this is the reason I am on the fence about dying hair! What if I hate doing it?!! What if its a pain in the butt and shouldn’t I love my aging hair? I just don’t know !!! :) :)

  • on these girls, it looks great! and on you it would too!

  • If there’s anyone who could pull it off, I think you could.  I would only do it if it was done really well like Amber mentioned.  Personally my hair is already kinda like that since it bleaches out in the summer and then in the winter grows in darker though not quite to the extremes up there.   I’d think you could do your own with ‘Sun In’ and get just a taste to see if you really liked it without going extreme

  • Yum now I am craving Paneras :)  oohh love love the Ombre look!  You are gorgeous and could probably pull off pretty much anything!Hope you have had wonderful weekend!

  •          I LOVE the ombre and am planning one very shortly. I just wish my hair were a little longer!BTW….my 11 yr old wants to “dip” her hair…..bright pink at the bottom. She must think I am crazy! ;)

  • I think it looks Great in those photos you posted. But you would have to have long hair to really rock the look. And curly would be even better. Wait! You have both! I say go for it. My favorite picture is the one of Drew Barrymore at the top. I love how light her hair gets at the end and how it frames her face.  And yeah, just a little jealous of the “sitting at Panera Bread. Watching the snow fall. Writing my blog post.”  Whatever, Liz!

  • just when i say i never heard of it…that very evening after i said that ^^^my niece brought up ombre.and i was all “with it” haha and knew what it was.
