Our second first date.
February 1994. {Yikes that sounds like a long time ago.}
The snow was falling very heavy that night and my parents almost didn’t let me go.He was late. He said I gave him bad directions to my house,
I say he was just late…I only lived a few blocks away!
He drove his mom’s car, it was red. He opened the door for me. He still does.
I was impressed and told all my friends about it Monday at school. He wore an American flag sweater from Structure…yeah, remember that store?
If not then you’re too young to be reading this blog.We ate at The Olive Garden. I ordered ravioli, he ate…I don’t remember! Ha!
After dinner we went ice skating. It was his first time. It was my millionth.
Last Friday night, 19 years later Jeff surprised me and recreated our very first date!
Complete with driving past both of our old houses, which we now live an hour away from.We went back to the same restaurant and then went skating.
It was so much fun to pretend to be on our first date all over again…
(until later when he let me know that indeed we are married.A couple things we learned.
1.Sometime between 1994 and now, Olive Garden stopped serving bread sticks and salad for free.
2.We’re terrible ice skaters, I mean really terrible.
3.We never save room for dessert. After nineteen years of knowing each other, we are more in love than ever.
I’m so glad God placed this man in my life, what a gift he is.So that was our first date.
Where did you go on your first date? How long ago was it?

first date, a little place called Main St. Diner. It wasn’t fancy, but it was cozy and i miss that place now that they tore it down to make room for a bigger rite aid. it was 10 years and a few months ago, i think. i was so nervous. that didn’t last too long, though
We went bowling with his sister and her husband 44 years ago last month — We’ve never been ice skating together!!
I love what you guys did. You have a sweet husband. We played miniature golf on our first date.
What wonderful memories your post prompted! When I get home in a couple days, I’ll tell the story in a post and tag you. The short version? The military had screwed up my pay so I had less than 5 bucks to my name. I was temporary duty in North TX and a family from a church I visited had me for dinner. Their daughter was a single mom and after dinner I offered to buy ice cream if we could use their car. I was being nice to a doll of a little girl without a daddy. Apparently no man had ever done that so it became an accidental first date. It didn’t hurt that her Mama ( now my wife) was easy on the eyes, but at that point neither of us, for our own reasons, were interested in dating.
what fun! what a sweet couple you two make.
What a sweet idea! We went out for ice cream cones for our first date…361/2 years ago now!
That is so sweet! Our first date was in May of 1992 and we went to a BBQ restaurant. I don’t like BBQ but it didn’t matter then!
Aw! Super sweet. Love that you did that! Our first “real” date was on valentines day 2005. However we started dating January 10th, and that night he took me to meet his parents since I hadn’t met them yet… but I don’t really count that as a date. Then on January 11th, he came over to my place and said good bye because I was leaving for Asia for a month for a missions trip. So we emailed and talked on the phone the month I was gone, but our first “real” dress up, and go out together on a date was a month later on Valentines day a few days after I got back from Asia. We got engaged two months later and got married in August of that year. No regrets. Still amazed he picked me and that I get to spend life with HIM!
I love this Made me smile all cheesy all the way through it. I am a hopeless romantic. I did that for Craig leading up to our anniversary – recreating date nights from some of our favorite dates – not just the first one. I would probably say our first official date out was to go see Titanic. But I do remember before that we went fishing and then he made me catfish for lunch – first time he cooked for me.
how FUN. i love the thought and time put into making this happen.which takes FUN to a whole new level with me.
you two are just so good together. our first date was november 13, 1988.which means that we were about… ten. i think.if you do the math.
he showed up in khaki, khaki pants and sweater. and it’s hilarious.because i was wearing a khaki colored dress and shoes. we looked like the bobbsey twins. dorky! and then we went to the sunday evening service at my church.i was relieved to simply be sitting on a pew. i was so nervous i broke out in terrible rash. happy wednesday my friend!
How awesome is this? I love that picture, too. Rich and I went on a double date, out to a movie and pizza after.
aww! this is so sweet Liz! our first date? Kansas, Applebee’s and lots of nervous-ness. =)
We went to lunch at a little downtown spot called the Spur. Years later my husband put a scrapbook together with one of their old menu’s, a napkin from the restaurant where he proposed (outside the restaurant was a bridge and waterfall – he got down on one knee and proposed!) and several other momentos from our years and memories together. I cherish the scrapbook
happy 19 years!!!
Oh my goodness, this is just TOO great. YOU guys are just too great.
I can’t even tell you how much I love you guys and what an inspiration you are to me. More than you’ll ever know! There just aren’t many marriages out there like yous – with that love and commitment both. Our first date… a super classy black tie restauarant, and then we went to a park and sat in the gazebo talking for hours.
I was nervous and excited and didn’t talk much but he did most of the talking – and still does!
How fun it would be to do it again!xoxo
