  • Vacation and a Story About a Bagel

I haven’t posted in so long that I now have post overload.  We just got back from spending eight days in the Smoky Mountains.  Jeff’s mom and dad rented a cabin for the entire family to stay in.  There were twenty two of us total.  It was very nice of them to do, and we are thankful to them for the week we had down there.  We did a little hiking, went to Dollywood, and hung around our cabin.  I’m only putting a few pictures up right now because my computer is taking forever to download them.

We are about 10 hours from Tennessee.  Everyone napped on and off in the car, and once I turned around, and Sophia was kissing Allison’s hand while she was dozing off.  So cute!

It was 53 and raining the morning we left for Tennessee.  We were so excited to have weather in the 80′s and 90′s once we got down there.  It was our first swim of the year.  The pool was tucked back into the mountains.  It was so pretty.

One of the highlights ~ Getting to take a bath in a huge bathtub.  They thought it was the greatest.

My brother in laws pizza.  Words cannot describe how good it is.  This picture does no justice to it.  I could eat his pizza everyday. It is WONDERFUL!!!

I will put more pictures up later of Dollywood, the waterpark, and our hike.  I don’t know what the problem is?????

We came home on Father’s Day.  We had driven all night and I was really tired and cranky the next day.  I was trying not to be, but the crabbiness kept oozing out.  Since we were gone all week, I really didn’t have much to make for dinner, and didn’t feel much like going to the grocery store. The kids asked if we could go to Panera Bread, we said sure.    We drove over, ordered our food, and then sat down.  I was sitting at the table with my family feeling bad that I was such a pill to be around, and I silently started praying.

I told God that I just felt tired and down.  I needed a little encouragement.  Now I know this is a silly and selfish sounding thing to pray for, but I did.  I asked God to please give me a little encouragement.  I asked him if he could please send a Panera Bread employee over to us and give us a dozen bagels just because.  It’s not the bagels that I wanted, I just wanted to see God in an amazing way that evening.

Well, we were cleaning up our table, and the manager comes walking over to us carrying a big bag of bagels tied at the top with a curly ribbon.

“Hi folks.  I saw you sitting here with all your kids and I thought that you might like a bagels for tomorrow morning.” he said.

I almost fell over onto the floor!!!  The man handed me the bag of bagels and all I said was thank you.   I couldn’t believe it.  I must have had a strange look on my face because Jeff asked me if something was wrong.

“I have to tell you something when we get into the car!”

I was in awe. I couldn’t believe God answered my bagel prayer.  All night and the next morning I kept repeating ~ “I can’t believe we got a bag of bagels.”

Sometimes God uses something as simple as a bag of bagels to restore and encourage our faith.  Even writing this, I still am amazed!  I am going tell the manager in Panera this story the next time I go back in there.  I wanted to at the time.  I normally would have, but I was too awestruck.  I had to process it.

When we left for Tennessee, we were having chilly and dreary weather, since we’ve been back, everyday has been over 90 degrees and sunny.  We are on our way outside to enjoy the sunshine!

Hope everyone has a great afternoon whatever your weather!

  • wow- God is so good!!

  • Such cute pictures of your time in Tennessee.  I love the mountians and hope to someday live in them .  We are down here in very hot Southeast FL.  I mean hot…90-100 degrees daily.  I’d love some cool mountain air.  What a God thing!  I just love when things like that happen…but, it was so on target.  HE is so amazing.  Have a blessed day.

  • We’re headed to a cabin in Gatlinburg in about 2 weeks for a family reunion. We’ve all rented a huge house for  5 days. Fun! I can’t wait.

  • your bagel story makes me want to go sit at the bank and pray for something similar to happen!! ;)

that’s an INCREDIBLE testimony of God’s goodness, Liz~ I love it when He reaches down and shows us real life tangible ways that He cares~ it’s just like He’s saying to us personally, “see. I love you. I REALLY do!” :)

sorry for the crankiness… we sure had fun w/ you guys though. :) next time just stay the night – or WEEK! that way we can get a little shopping in too. :) :)

the shot of Sophia (or who emma calls, “Fofie”) kissing Allie’s hand is sweet.

your kids are all so precious!

    <3 ya~

  • I came here on Amber’s reccommendation and loved what I have read! Yep, it’s really awesome when God does what comes naturally to Him; taking care of us! It’s just hard when we know what we need, but His agenda is different! THAT is what I’m struggling with right now after getting rejected yet again for refinancing! But, I tell myself “HE KNOWS”!!! I think I shall go buy a bagel magnet for the fridge to remind myself that God provides. Your family is so cute, by the way! Love, GAil in AZ

  • I am also on here because of Amber’s recommendation.Isn’t God amazing the way He reveals himself?

Your vacation sounds like a lot of fun.I have a dream of doing that with my family but having eight siblings it  isn’t easy to plan something like that.Have a great day.Carol

  • i’m thinking that sophie and allison are your little girls.  they. are. beautiful.   it is fun seeing your family…and knowing you more.

i can relate to feeling “buggy”…and miserable.  i hate when i get that way.  sometimes it feels uncontrollable.    it is usually when i’m hot or tired.  or hungry.  or overwhelmed.

this story is AMAZING!  from our AMAZING God!  who loves us more than we could ever dare imagine.  THANKS for sharing this!  it blessed me tremendously~!

  • Here because of Amber.

I love those stories of God performing “small miracles” in our presence, when He knows we need a shot in the arm to remind us He’s always with us!.

  • @Patenaude - You are a brave girl being so close to your due date!  You’ll have so much fun, it’s so pretty down there, especially Gatlinburg.  The town is so cute, busy in the summer, but cute!  Hope you and baby are doing well. (and the rest of your family too! =))

  • @Hutch5 - At about 3:00 in the morning I told Jeff ~ We should’ve stayed at their house!  Even if we just slept out in the car in their driveway I would be happy!  It was fun.  My kids want you to visit, they had so much fun.  You’ll have to come, you have lots of options when it comes to lodging! =)  Have a good weekend.

  • Looks like you guys had an awesome vacation. Your bagel story is amazing. It is awesome how God works sometimes.

    Have a great day!

  • @Elizabethmarie_1 - Yes, I will be 34 weeks when we leave, 35 when we get home! We’ve talked through if I do go into labor down there. We’re bringing a couple of Clarks things, just in case…but I am not expecting it. I do know it will be hot and humid, so lots of water and making sure I put my feet up often!  Hope all is well!

  • I love your pictures! And I can’t wait to see more of Tenessee….I hope that your computer will work for you! You’re not the only one who I’ve heard is having trouble getting picture up here….not sure what the problem is!

That story is sooo awesome! Thanks so much for sharing that!
