  • I haven’t posted in so long.  I have posts I want to do, things I want to write, pictures to put up, and then I don’t and they get all piled up in my head and it seems like this HUGE task to put everything on here, and I just keep thinking….. “I’ll do it tomorrow!”  Then I don’t.  So here I am, behind in xanga.  So I thought I would do a quick little post and then start from today on.

So here’s a little bit of rambling.

I haven’t been busy on xanga, just in life.  I have been trying to get my house and schedule and everything else in order.

It’s so much easier to keep a clean house ~

    1. When school is not going on everyday, and we spend most of our time outside. (no ones in here to mess)

    2. When I stay home!

The more I am home, I seem to have everything in order a little better than when we are busy and out all the time.

My kids love to stay home.  Especially my boys.  Besides visiting family, they don’t like to go out.  Of course if we are doing something majorly fun, then, well, of course they are excited, but for the most part, they just want to play in our yard, ride their bikes and make their own fun.  I am happy for that.  Jeff and I don’t want kids that have to be entertained all the time, living for the next outing, the next social high, always looking for something bigger and better to do!   They are content.  Kids are content with simple things, if they aren’t, it’s because the parents make them that way.

Nightmare words to hear out of your kid’s mouths~ “I’m bored!” (especially in a whiny tone! Ewwwww!!!)

We were not allowed to say that in my house when we were little, and it’s not allowed here either. It’s nothing more than a complaining spirit.  Kids who use this line regularly are usually so over entertained that they don’t know what to do when someone’s not amusing or entertaining them!

Rule here is, if you say you’re bored, dad and mom can surely find something (work!) for you to do. (another rule passed down from my parents!)  Funny, if you say that, all of a sudden you will find that their creative juices start to flow like a river!

We wanted to have a very simple summer, we want our kids to appreciate the simple things in life.  We started it out by going to Tennessee, and have not done much since then.  We wanted a clear schedule so that we could spend time as a family without having tons of commitments.  Let me tell you, it has been wonderful!!!  Everything is just a little bit calmer, and it’s so nice.

We go for more walks, eat more ice cream cones, and sit a little longer on our back porch watching the kids play on the swings.  I wish things could stay like this forever, but they don’t.  So we are trying to make the most of it now.

Our boys, and the little boys next door were all talking together, and Sophia was in the middle of them just standing in her dress up clothes.  It was a funny feet picture!

Hope you have a fabulous Friday!

  • Hey Liz!

I know the feeling of being behind on xanga, it’s no fun! I love your post, and your picture!! Thanks for the awesome scavenger hunt at Gianna’s party!! Too bad we didn’t win….

    Stephanie

  • @Stephanie_J_B - Next time Stephanie, next time!!!!!!!  Even though we didn’t win, we had the best team!

  • I LOVE the picture of the kids’ feet!!! I wish our summer could be simple, but it’s so hard with teens; one working at camp and coming home on weekends (bringing girls home with her to shower and do laundry and go shopping, plus she has worship team practice at  church and whatever we try to do as a family. Our dear boy teen is busy, too with his High school worship team practice, house sitting for people who get to go away, hangin’ out with friends and, if he’s blessed, working alongside Dad at a building project. Hubby and I have our church responsibilities, plus his occasional work, and then we do what we can to help our oldest son and his little family. It’s insane and I’m not real happy right now with it all; like we can’t even breathe together as a family, by ourselves! Boy, I guess I just dumped a boatload of frustration here! I’m sorry! Enjoy every moment you can on your back porch! Love, GAil

  • I know the feeling! I do the same thing. I just can’t seem to find the time anymore, or the energy. That is a rule in our house also I am so glad you are having a wonderful summer. We are too. Baby is crying so I better go.

  • AMEN!    And again amen to all that you have said.  You and your hubby are very wise.  Love the sweet little feet picture.  We have always had the same rule here at our house.  Though my children are now 15 and 20 years old, they still call it the “B” word.  The word bored and the complaining spirit you so rightly described are avoided at our home.   It is a wonderful life habit that will serve them well as adults and finding their contentment right where the Lord has them.  God Bless you dearest Liz!  I think I’ll go have my ice cream cone on my back porch now.  Love, Cindy A.

  • I’m not offended at all – I completely agree about the whole bored statement.  Aleigh, my 4 yr old got her little sister saying it & when she said it I was like – your two years old and you don’t even know what the word bored is.  They do learn to go find something to do or I will give them chores.  It is nice to have some planned activity each day b/c the truth is some days I get a little “bored” myself but don’t tell them I said that.   You only can do sidewalk chalk and bubbles so many times before you are wanting some different outdoor games to do & so I was glad for some new ideas.

  • I love simple summers!  yay for your kids enjoying life!

  • Hey Liz!

That’s so cool! Glad you’ve had a great summer! I totally agree with the whole “bored” thing!

By the way, you guys may have had the so called “best team” during the scavenger hunt, but that didn’t stop you from losing to my team! So obviously, our team (not yours) was the best! Hence the phrase: “May the BEST team win!”

Lol, JUST kidding you here! Although our team still totally beat your team…
